The Testing of Fear

Dan will talk about how to recognise how fears can be managed and utilised in order to overcome complex testing challenges by helping us to understand some of the key psychological thinking that surrounds fear and how it can impact our testing . We can then start to begin to develop techniques to manage our professional fears, and be able to support and nurture this learning within teams and the community.

Gatling is an open source load testing framework based on Scala.
Demo of the tool Gatling and how we used it in a recent project to simulate user traffic.

So BrighTest event went really well with over 20 testers and even a couple of developers turning up!
Dan started the presentations talking about the emotion of fear and how it holds us back in our lives, but it doesn’t need to. We can use our fears, face them and learn from them.
The more you know about something the more rational it becomes, and is not as feared. The biggest fear there is is the unknown after all.
So what do you fear?
Have you tried to overcome your fears before?We then moved onto the load testing tool gatling with a show and tell from Jack. He explained that we chose a 1 second response time to aim for on the website with less than 1% error rate. The discussion afterwards was great and we had a comment that actually just because something response fast it does not mean it feels right to the user, so do not forget usability!
