Microsoft release Visual Basic 1.0 and Bookmooch is launched. All on today’s On This Day from TEST Huddle.

 

1991 – Microsoft Release Visual Basic 1.0visual basic

Microsft release Visual Basic on this day in 1991. Visual Basic is a programming language and integrated development environment (IDE) from Microsoft designed for its COM programming model. The drag and drop design for creating the user interface is derived from a prototype form generator developed by Alan Cooper and his company. There would be six more versions of Visual Basic released up until 1998.

 

 

 

 

2006 – Bookmooch launched

One of the earliest examples of social webiste where the user generates the work,  the book trading website Bookmooch is launched by John Buckman. Bookmooch is a community where users can swap used books. In it’s first year, it will receive a huge amount of media attention, The website is still active today with the number of users peaking in 2009 and 2010 but since declining.
